Dry ice cleaning is a fast, environmental friendly cleaning method for
shipbuilding and industry. Comparing this innovative method with grinding as another surface
preparation method for shipbuilding, it is obvious, that larger interior and exterior surfaces can
be finished more economically by means of dry ice cleaning:
The surface is cleaned more thoroughly, shows no remaining dirt.
Humidity-pulling components are removed from the surface.
Compared to blasting method, dry ice cleaning is faster, does not require heavy
equipment and fits better into the processes at a shipyard or at a construction site.
The procedure can be described as follows:
-
Adhering impurities lose their elasticity at a temperature of - 78°C.
-
Mechanical stresses occur.
-
Ice turns into gas, and the impurities affected by points 1. + 2. are blasted
off and transported away by the compressed air without leaving any residues.
Data and facts:
GTF has been working for nearly 10 years with the dry ice cleaning method. In
this time we prepared approx. 1.5 millions m² with this technology for a following coating resp.
cleaned industrial surfaces of impurities. Despite this high performance we used only approx. 5,000
t dry ice in various pellet sizes. For the cleaning of the same surfaces with blasting procedures
approx. 18,750 tons grit would have been used.
